CAMILLE O’SULLIVAN: THE DARK ANGEL

Previously an award-winning architect and painter, Camille’s career changed direction completely after a near fatal car accident in Dublin. Born in London to a French mother and racing driver Irish father, O'Sullivan grew up in Cork surrounded by the music of her parents’ eclectic LP collection - Deep Purple was racked next to  Debussy and Brel. This soundtrack was the inspiration which has made her one of Ireland's most unique artists. In fact, one of the major factors in Camille’s international success has been her audiences’ total inability to pigeonhole her distinctive performances. This makes her one of the world’s most accessible and yet enigmatic performers.

As much storyteller as singer, Camille is inspired by the narrative songs of Brel, Weil and Cave discovering the character in each song and shows an inspirational fearlessness in her work. She has appeared in the films Over the Edge (directed by John Carnie Oscar Winner for “Once”) and the Oscar-nominated Mrs Henderson Presents (dir. Stephen Frears) and has appeared in theatrical productions of Tonight Lola Blau and Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd at Dublin’s Gate Theatre. She has also exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin and is a regular TV Panelist on John Kelly’s arts programme The View (RTÉ One). Recently she has performed with Marta Wainwright, Beth Orton, Shane McGowan and Marc Almond.
