The Sunday Times Humour Book of the Year Adapted for The Stage.

Roger Mortimer's often hilarious, sometimes touching, always generous letters to his son, Charlie, are packed with crisp anecdotes and sharp observations. The trials and tribulations of Charlie's youth and adulthood are received by his father with both humour and resignation. Spanning twenty-five years, their correspondence forms a memoir of their relationship, an affectionate portrait of a time gone by.

Father and son James Fox and Jack Fox will star in this new stage adaptation by best-selling author Michael Simkins, in which he uncovers many more undocumented stories of Charlie's wayward life and his relationship with his father.

What a lovely, poignant, funny and charming show, made all the more so by father and son James and Jack Fox playing father and son Roger and Charlie 'Lupin' Mortimer. Such excellent performances by both: James so funny playing various roles and Jack's gradual realisation of their loving bond. 'We felt the love!' Excellent transition from book to stage. Sadly, that was the final performance but surely a revival calls? More please!

Sybil Kretzmer

Charming! Full of laughter of all kinds: knowing, surprising, and moving. You don't need to have read the book to enjoy the play either, but if you haven't I encourage you to buy a copy which conveniently is for sale in the foyer!

kaye shepperd

A very gentle comedy with a little pathos performed brilliantly. A very enjoyable evening.

NANETTE GLAISYER

Loved it - everything and more than your adverts intimated. Wonderful acting the audience was enthralled. My husband raved about it all the way home on the train to the Cogtswolds.

Phebe Robinow

A delicately-nuanced, affectionate portrait of father-son relations played by one of our greatest actors and his real-life son (who isn't bad, either!).

Caroline Garvey

Well related with good humour timing

Moira Halpin

Very enjoyable. Funny but with moments of sadness & reflection.

keith white

it was a pity there weren't more of the letters read out instead of too much descriptive dialogue

Review: Dear Lupin At The Apollo Theatre

Real life father and son James and Jack Fox star as Roger Mortimer and his son Charlie — aka the Lupin of the title — in this comedy adapted by Michael Simkins from the bestselling book, which consists of letters sent by Roger to Charlie over a period of years between 1967 and 1991 as the son and heir went increasingly off the rails.
